In a country like India where 80% of the population lives in the villages, we will need to empower villages if India is to make any real progress. KAIFI AZMI formed an NGO in the village Mijwan, where he was born called MIJWAN WELFARE SOCIETY (1993) and worked tirelessly for the empowerment of the people of the village especially Women. Through Empowerment, MWS brings social and economic equity to the villagers and through Education it brings everyone, especially the girl child, into the mainstream of society. By promoting village based small scale industries and supporting it with marketing skills and strategies, MWS facilitates viable Self Employment.
Today Shabana Azmi with her daughter Namrata Goyal carries forward the work started by her father late Kaifi Azmi and has successfully set up the following initiatives to support the cause of Empowerment.
- Kaifi Azmi Girls Higher Secondary School
- Kaifi Azmi Girls Inter-College
- Kaifi Azmi Computer Training Centre
- Kaifi Azmi Embroidery and Sewing Centre for Women
